one more

We stopped at a local fruit stand and got some fresh pineapple and sugar cane, the best pineapple I have ever had. And I forgot to mention that John went surfing with his iphone in his pocket, oops, so we had to make a trip to the apple store while we were there to get him a new phone. Expensive surfing trip.

Working hard

I took this picture of John a little while ago. (It is much easier to take a picture of someone who is not jumping around with a short attention span) Handsome right? John has updated his website again and has a blog as well. Also, here is a picture of the new AMP brand that John redid, their new sign looks great.

I wanted to post this picture from Vera's blessing, There is a little distortion from the lens but I thought this one was super cute. Love them both.

Six

Our anniversary kind of snuck up on us. Neither of us realized it until someone called to wish us a happy day. It was nice just to have John to myself for a few hours, we went to lunch and a movie. Sign me up for another year, I love this guy.

New Toy

John asked my permission to buy a dirt bike. I can't even remember the last time John bought something for himself or even took some time to do anything fun just for himself. It's really fun watching him have something he enjoys doing. A few days ago John and Wes spent an hour outside washing and fixing up his bike, Wes was in heaven, and it made me happy to watch them together.

I'm Lucky

I am really glad that John made me be his girlfriend when I didn't want a boyfriend. I am also glad that he waited a long time to tell me that he loved me because he knew I wasn't ready, and I wasn't. Now six years later I'm glad that John drags me all around the country moving from place to place without a real home because I secretly love it. We have a lot of fun together and I certainly have a greater life than I could have ever dreamed up on my own. Life is coming at us pretty fast and sometimes it is hard to keep up but whenever we can find a quiet moment together we always end up amazed at all the blessings we have been given.

I think in the past year and a half we have really been able to figure out how to work together to make the things happen in our lives that we really want. I think there is a lot to be said about vizualization and making goals. Goals and future planning are a big part of our relationship and I feel like we have a lot of power to achieve the things that we would like to see happen for our family. Of coarse really our relationship is three people including our Savior, and when he is involved that is really when we see amazing things happen. We both have this scary but exciting feeling that we have some big and unexpected things ahead for our family, and I think that as long as we are open to the risks and opportunities that come our way then we will be ready for them. I guess risks and challenges might be similar but I look at them more as risks. Both can have a positive outcome but I think you can choose risks and challenges are sometimes just given to you. Anyway, I think that John and I have been able to take on some calculated risks in our lives in the last little while that have really turned out to be very big blessings, and sometimes it's fun and exciting to take on something new and unexpected. Well I guess I better stop before this gets too long. Here is the first picture ever taken of us, john is so darling (not so cute of me) his smile kind of reminds me of Mae's.

Pattern

Look at this cool pattern that John designed for me. I can't decide what to use it for, there are so many fun things I could do.

Birthday Boy

29 Years old. Our plan was to hang out in the morning so that John could work the rest of the day but we couldn't get enough fun in so this is what we did: We went kayaking after breakfast on the Potomac River around an island, it was hot and sweaty but fun. We decided that we don't want to own kayaks like we thought we did.

Then we headed over the to US Botanic Gardens right by the capitol and saw some cool plants and just got to hang out, just the two of us. Then we went out to lunch at a great mexican restaurant that all the locals had been recommending, it was super good. We figured that we could have eaten there eight times for the price we paid for our fancy dinner we had on our anniversary, and this place was much better. I guess we just aren't fancy steak people. While we were eating we reviewed our children's needs and made goals to help them grow and progress, we really enjoyed it.

Then we decided to go see a movie even though we were supposed to be home soon to see the kids. Luckily Cari is the best aunt and she said she would be happy to watch the kids as long as we wanted. So we went to the theatre where we were given the wrong tickets and eventually saw one movie, two-thirds of another and a quarter of another. We saw 500 Days of Summer which was so fun to watch, it really did remind me of us dating (although a lot of people probably feel the same) it was a fun film. After the movie we went shopping and got dessert and got home just in time for the kids to go to bed, perfect timing.

Tonight we had friends and family over for games and birthday cake, a great ending to a great week and our last sunday in DC! Happy Birthday, I Love you John.

Round 5

We spent our anniversary moving from one apartment to another down the hall, I guess our apartment was leased out to someone else. So we moved all of our things over for the next few weeks before we leave, glad thats over. So we left our kids and a mess of a house with Cari and we went into the city. John took me to Ruth's Chris for dinner and then we walked the city streets and had fun just holding hands and having fun. We walked in some great old original neighborhoods in DC with charming homes. We had just a small taste of what it will be like after this summer is over, actually being able to spend our evenings together, can't wait. We decided that the past five years have been the best five years of our life and we are also looking forward to a much needed vacation.

I put a movie on for John and Wes while we were waiting for the furniture movers to come, they fell asleep before the movie even started.

Fathers

I found some great vintage maps at the downtown market of the states we have lived in so far. Some of them are from the late 1800's. We gave them to John for father's day and hope to hang them up in a new house sometime soon.

As a father, John has far exceeded my expectations and continues to impress me all the time. He cares for us, his little family, so much and works so hard to keep us well and happy. I love John as a husband and father, we are so blessed.

A house of peace

My favorite day of the whole summer so far. A well needed trip to the temple. It was so peaceful, so relaxing, and so fulfilling. Such beautiful architecture, artwork, and people (not us, the people inside, who were so nice and willing to serve).

I love Family Time

We don't get to see John much, he works ten to twelve hours a day, six days a week. But last week he lost his voice which made it hard to work so he got to hang out with us for a few days, it was so fun. We took the kids to a super fun park, went on walks and went shopping together. Wes loved having daddy around. I feel like we rarely get pictures all together but here is a good one. Wes' cheeks are so pink from running around non stop playing on all the fun toys.

Sleepy Heads

We were all tired out from a long but fun evening of sushi dinner, sees chocolates, indoor playground/fountain, merry go round, shopping, and movie. The perfect way to celebrate our freedom from our house! I had just enough energy left to take this sweet picture late last night.

Party in the Park

After dinner at Mimi's we headed over to Rock Canyon Park and had some delicious carrot cake. Wes gave John a soccer ball, which he picked out, and all the boys played soccer for a while. Wes got stung by a bee on his hand but wanted to keep playing so he was running after the ball half crying and half laughing. It was a fun night.

Happy Birthday John!

This post is dedicated to John.
Happy Birthday to the best husband and dad in the world!

I found this picture of John when I was looking through some old files, he did it as part of a campaign when he was working for BYU, it's hilarious.

John at Wes' age

Four Years

Yesterday was our anniversary so we headed up to park city for a night on the town. We stopped by the farmers market and picked up some delicious goat cheese, sweet corn, and granny smith apples. Then we headed up to Main Street and walked through the shops, it was really hard not to buy one of everything in the Chocolate Factory. Then we had dinner at Main Street Pizza and Noodle, where we went almost every weekend while we were dating but hadn't been back since we were married. We went and saw The Dark Night after dinner and then headed back to Salt Lake to pick up Wes from Emily and Tyler's. It is amazing how fast you can eat dinner and how many things you can get done in one evening without a toddler.

Thinking back over the past four years I am so glad I married John, so blessed that he married me, and looking forward to being married for eternity and all the exciting things and challenges that come with it.
