Grass

So why do our kids hate grass so much? Mabel was trying her hardest not to let her legs or arms touch the grass. And remember when Wes freaked out when we put him on the grass? So funny. We are loving being home and had a great day with John home, we stopped by to visit Rose & Josh and Brandon & Hill, we love our family.

We're Home!

We left sooner than we thought, drove through the night, and are so glad to be back. The kids were soooo good for a three day trip, it couldn't have gone better, I'm so proud of them.

Birthday Boy

29 Years old. Our plan was to hang out in the morning so that John could work the rest of the day but we couldn't get enough fun in so this is what we did: We went kayaking after breakfast on the Potomac River around an island, it was hot and sweaty but fun. We decided that we don't want to own kayaks like we thought we did.

Then we headed over the to US Botanic Gardens right by the capitol and saw some cool plants and just got to hang out, just the two of us. Then we went out to lunch at a great mexican restaurant that all the locals had been recommending, it was super good. We figured that we could have eaten there eight times for the price we paid for our fancy dinner we had on our anniversary, and this place was much better. I guess we just aren't fancy steak people. While we were eating we reviewed our children's needs and made goals to help them grow and progress, we really enjoyed it.

Then we decided to go see a movie even though we were supposed to be home soon to see the kids. Luckily Cari is the best aunt and she said she would be happy to watch the kids as long as we wanted. So we went to the theatre where we were given the wrong tickets and eventually saw one movie, two-thirds of another and a quarter of another. We saw 500 Days of Summer which was so fun to watch, it really did remind me of us dating (although a lot of people probably feel the same) it was a fun film. After the movie we went shopping and got dessert and got home just in time for the kids to go to bed, perfect timing.

Tonight we had friends and family over for games and birthday cake, a great ending to a great week and our last sunday in DC! Happy Birthday, I Love you John.

A day at home

We have been running so many errands and doing a lot of sight seeing lately that we have needed a day to just stay home and have fun. This morning the kids had fun just crawling around on the floor and making each other laugh. Sometimes when I hear Wes and Mae having fun together in the other room I come to check on them and Wes is always sitting on Mae (and usually jumping up and down) and they are both laughing like crazy. I don't know why they think it is so funny. And one of Wes' favorite activities to do this summer has been to jump on our couch or our bed. I guess kids aren't supposed to jump on furniture but I'm not sure why, I always loved doing it and Wes sure loves it so for now we are a jump on your bed family.

Round 5

We spent our anniversary moving from one apartment to another down the hall, I guess our apartment was leased out to someone else. So we moved all of our things over for the next few weeks before we leave, glad thats over. So we left our kids and a mess of a house with Cari and we went into the city. John took me to Ruth's Chris for dinner and then we walked the city streets and had fun just holding hands and having fun. We walked in some great old original neighborhoods in DC with charming homes. We had just a small taste of what it will be like after this summer is over, actually being able to spend our evenings together, can't wait. We decided that the past five years have been the best five years of our life and we are also looking forward to a much needed vacation.

I put a movie on for John and Wes while we were waiting for the furniture movers to come, they fell asleep before the movie even started.

Scooter

I have mostly thought that Mae is more like John than me but lately I feel like we have a lot in common.

We both crawl around on the floor picking up cheerios
We both have baby fat
Cereal seems to be a main source of our diet
We are both cranky by 5
We both adore the boys in our family who can make us laugh even when we want to cry
Our hair is doing crazy things in this humidity
And when we are tired and sick we just snuggle in bed until we fall asleep

Mae can't even talk yet but I think she is my best friend already.

I love watching her little fingers and brain work. She is really good at her fine motor skills and I can tell that creative things are going on in her mind all the time. I think she will be a very talented person some day.

We got a package the other day from my Mom with lots of little thoughtful surprises, including this cute little shirt she made for Mae. Thanks Mom!
